I use VS2005, but there's no reason why VS2008 shouldn't work.

sdlmain.h is distributed together with the rest of SDL; if it's complaining about being the wrong version, then it sounds like you've mixed two different versions of SDL together; your sdlmain.h doesn't match the rest of your SDL library.

But for what it's worth, I'm using SDL 1.2.13 at the moment.

What compiler do you use? I tried compiling it in VS2008 express, and even after installing all the pre-req dependencies, it still had some errors. So figured it might be easier if I just use the same compiler you're using for it.

Also, what version of sdlmain.h do you use? That was the final sticking point error (says mine is the wrong version)

The main reason is just that I happen to know and be most comfortable with C++.

But a supporting reason is that it's much easier to get people to download and play native apps than ones which require users to download a runtime environment like the correct version of a JRE or the correct version of dotNet runtime.

I imagine that this will become less so in the future, as new Windows PCs come with dotNet already installed (assuming that they don't keep releasing new versions of it which users will have to keep installing manually). But at the moment, users really don't like having to fuss around with this sort of thing, when all they want to do is have fun playing a game.

I know your programs are all written in C++, but I'm curious as to why you chose to use it instead of C# or Java. Was it more familiarity with the subject, or were there specific advantages to C++ programming that you wanted to take advantage of?

Being a C++ and C# programmer, with highschool/college experience with C++, and currently working in a job where I do C#.
