MS6 tomorrow

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 6.03.14 pmI tried really hard to finish up the MS6 build today, but it just didn’t quite make it. Highlight of the day was discovering that the cause of a bug I’d been hunting for more than an hour that I’d forgotten to actually save a file which I’d modified.

On the plus side, I very nearly completed the milestone today. I only have one task remaining for the MS6 build, so I’ll be testing it a bit and will release the build tomorrow. On the down-side, I’ve cut “teams” from this milestone — it just exploded into something bigger than I could fit; even once teams were working properly, they just exposed too many flaws in other areas of the game, especially the current random distribution of monsters. A single player is easily enough to defeat a monster right now (due to their better AI); a full team will absolutely slaughter them. Teams really want there to be clusters of monsters, or higher-level monsters, or boss monsters, and those just aren’t in the game yet. So I’m putting off teams until the next milestone.

The screenshot today is of debugging pathfinding around town entrances. Towns now start out fully walled-off, and must have roads built to one of their walls in order to specify where the gates are. The white lines show ‘obstructions’ which PCs won’t cross while travelling. (Note that they’re drawing somewhat below the terrain, so they don’t quite line up visually)

Will chat with you all tomorrow, hopefully with a good MS6 build!
